New riders are also most likely to make mistakes. Hopefully, these mistakes don’t lead to injury, but one drop can scuff up your ride. It’s simply less painful to watch that happen on a used motorcycle.
Shopping for Used Bikes
When you’re ready to start looking around, you’ll want to approach your buying strategy in the same way you’d approach buying a new bike. Consider what you’ll need from your ride in ways of the kind of riding you’ll be doing (how long and how frequently) and what kinds of performance preferences you have.
From there, add a few more steps to your checklist. Make sure you perform a thorough inspection of the bike, inspecting as many places as you can. You’ll also want to take it for a test ride. This is to help you spot any concerns that might give you a headache down the road, or indicate some other reason to avoid a particular model. You’ll also want to ask for a vehicle history report to get a sense of what kinds of repairs the bike has already gone through (beware any sellers who seem hesitant to hand this over). If you’re feeling confident about a particular used bike, consider doing a little online research to see what other owners of this particular model year think of the ride. You can even ask a professional to do their own inspection and hopefully spot something you may have missed during your personal inspection.
