Western Pa. toy run to benefit children’s charities

The 33rd annual Western Pennsylvania Pittsburgh Toy Run to benefit local children’s charities at Christmastime will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Lower Burrell Veterans of Foreign Wars, 1601 Wildlife Lodge Road.

All brands of motorcycles, riders and non-riders are welcome. Advance registration is $15 and includes a ticket for a drawing for $200, a year bar pin and door prize ticket. Same-day registration is $15 or a new toy of equal or greater value in its original packaging. No stuffed animals, please. There will be games, a silent auction, 50-50 raffle and bike show with prizes. Rain or shine.

The largest preregistered group will receive a donation to present to the children’s charity of their choice for use at Christmastime and a plaque. Sponsorship opportunities are available.

Public welcome at free ice cream social

A free ice cream social will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Cabot American Legion, 754 N. Pike Road, Jefferson Township.

There will be a DJ, a petting zoo and a balloon artist. The kitchen will be open and the public is welcome.

Matthew Whitaker to perform Sunday at Hartwood Acres

The free 2024 Allegheny County Summer Concert series will feature pianist Matthew Whitaker with Colter Harper at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Hartwood Acres Park Amphitheater, 4070 Middle Road, Hampton.

Bring a chair. Popup tents and umbrellas are permitted but must be taken down before the performance begins. Dogs are permitted but must be on a leash at all times and be up to date on all vaccinations and licensing.

Today: The Apollo-Ridge High School Marching Band will host a pie night and preview of this year’s half time show “Top Gun” at 7 p.m. at Owens Field. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. Admission: $5, includes a slice of pie and drink. There will be a silent auction and 50-50.

Avonmore

Saturday: A bingo to benefit the Avonmore Senior Center will begin at 1 p.m. at the center, 458 Railroad Ave. Doors open at 11 a.m. Packets must be picked by 12:30 p.m. and early birds will begin at 12:45 p.m. There will be a 50-50 raffle, 14 regular games, five specials and a $300 last jackpot game. Brackenridge

Sept. 21: The auxiliaries of Pioneer Hose and Hilltop Hose companies will host a super bingo at Pioneer Hose Company, 124 Morgan St. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., early birds start at 12:45 p.m. and regular bingo begins at 1 p.m. Cost: $35, in advance, will be $40 at the door; includes a light lunch and bingo packet. East Vandergrift

Saturday: The Diaper Pantry at Christ Our Hope Anglican Church will distribute diapers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 926 Painter Ave., and at Sheldon Park, both in Natrona Heights. Recipients must drive up and remain in their vehicles. First-time recipients must provide their own identification, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card.

Saturday: The ClothesLine Ministry at Bethesda Lutheran Church, 3084 Leechburg Road, will be open from 9 a.m. to noon. Aug. 16: Westmoreland County Marines No. 1416 is selling tickets for a $1,000 meat raffle. The winning number will be the 7 p.m. Pennsylvania Lottery three-digit number. Through August 31: Kerr Memorial Museum, 402 Delaware Ave., Oakmont, is featuring an exhibit of elegant fashions of the late 1800s to the Roaring ‘20s at the museum.
