On Monday’s Felger & Mazz program, Tony Mazz reacted to the Red Sox’ disastrous weekend series versus the Houston Astros.
Red Sox Struggled vs. Astros
Parts of conversation abbreviated for clarity.
Tony Mazz: Red Sox got freaking annihilated. Did you see the home runs that the Astros hit?
Mike Felger: Yes, some of them.
Mazz: They averaged 423 feet. I did the math. I added them all up, 423 feet on average. They were freaking missiles all over the place
Jim Murray: Especially the Yordan Alvarez ones.
Mazz: Oh my God. And seven of them were on off-speed pitches. This is an important note because Andrew Bailey’s entire philosophy is, “Let’s go out there and spin the ball like it’s cotton candy.”
Except, you know what? The Astros have hitters that can hit the spinning crap. They have that. They have championship-caliber players, and they beat the crap out of your pitching staff.
That freaking Lucas Sims guy, I feel bad for him. He’s getting freaking pounded, absolutely pummeled, throwing that piece of crap slider up there that hangs in the middle of the plate. Jose Altuve waited on one of those pitches Friday night like it was a lamb chop.
Murray:Yeah, Friday night, he was part of the arson squad that’s in that bullpen right now. They finally got a good start from Houck for the first time in weeks and then it all goes to hell in a matter of a couple of innings.
Mazz: The Astros aren’t even as good as they’ve been in some other years. That was a mismatch. That series was a mismatch. And if the Red Sox think that they are going to build some sort of championship-caliber organization, they are sorely mistaken. Luis Garcia, Lucas Sims, Rob Refsnyder, and Tyler O’Neill won’t cut it. If they think that that’s how they’re going to win, it’s going to be another 86 years.
They got freaking pounded. That was championship-caliber talent in some places on the other side going against what is effectively a patchwork team, and you got freaking crushed.
They can’t keep the ball in the ballpark. They’ve given up 47 home runs since the All-Star break, that’s 21 games. Think of that.

16 Best New England vacation spots, according to Felger
On Friday’s Felger & Mazz program, Mike Felger gives his list of best summer vacation spots in New England.
Felger Vacation Tiers
Mike Felger is well-traveled over the New England area. Many know of his love for the Island of Nantucket, but as it turns out, he’s been to more vacation spots in New England than you’d think.
On Thursday’s show, the first of August, Felger and “Big Jim” Murray did a remote broadcast from The Faregrounds Restaurant on Nantucket. And it only seemed right for the guys to rank their best summer vacation spots. And while Murray and Matt McCarthy—stuck back at the Town Fair Tire Studios in Waltham—chimed in, Felger wanted everyone to know that these are his Tiers. Nobody else’s.
From time to time, Felger can be seen doing remote broadcasts from his backyard in Nantucket. Thursday’s event, however, was a little more dressed up as Heineken Silver sponsored the broadcast. And the Faregrounds are known to be a regularly frequented spot by Felger.
Jim Murray, on the other hand, is less privy to the secrets of Nantucket. He did take the pro move by taking a flight to the island, though. Typically, many passengers will take a one- to two-hour ferry to Nantucket.
But flying regionally out of a local New England airport will get you to the Island in a mere 20-30 minutes. Felger was almost too scared to share this secret on the air, as he was afraid too many people would find out about this ultimate life hack.
And now… Mike Felger’s ultimate list of best New England Vacation spots, going from worst to best…
