Source: Terapevticheskii arkhivA study analyzed the urinary proteomic profile of patients with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) to identify biomarkers of podocytopathies. The study included 41 patients with chronic glomerulonephritis, and the main differences in the urine protein profile were found in the subgroups of steroid-sensitive and steroid-resistant FSGS. Patients with steroid-resistant FSGS had higher concentrations of proteins indicating damage to the glomerular filter, tubulo-interstitial inflammation, and accumulation of extracellular matrix compared to patients with steroid-sensitive FSGS and membranous nephropathy. This suggests that patients with steroid-resistant FSGS have more severe damage to different parts of the nephron.
